Being an atypical parent… means learning to see the world through your child’s eyes.

In 2022, Bernardo was diagnosed with ASD, and from that moment on, a new chapter began for me and my wife, Fernanda.

At just 1 year and 7 months old, Bernardo was already showing us that his journey would be unique. In addition to autism, we face the challenges of CMPA (Cow’s Milk Protein Allergy) and atopic dermatitis together. Every day is a step toward building independence. Bernardo is a born explorer! He loves to run, climb, and discover the world, even if, at times, his sensory sensitivity or lack of awareness of danger requires a closer watch.

Our routine involves patience and adaptation. Whether it’s helping him with fine motor skills or giving him the time he needs to process a question and communicate, the focus is always the same: providing support so he can grow independently—after all, every small step forward is a giant achievement.

On this journey, the support I receive from my leadership is what allows me to be present where it matters most. Having a work environment that understands the therapy routine and the specific care needs of a child with special needs makes all the difference in my mental health and my performance.

Supporting a parent of a child with special needs is investing in a more humane, empathetic, and transformative work environment.
